Project Details

The official unveiling of the brand new McLaren Production Centre in Woking, England, could not have been made possible without the involvement and partnership of Targetti. The new building shares the same genesis as the neighbouring McLaren Technology Centre: it was designed by award-winning architects Foster + Partners in conjunction with McLaren. It will house the assembly facility for all future McLaren Automotive projects, including the MP4-12C high-performance sports car.McLaren Group chairman Ron Dennis said: “During the entire design and build phases of the McLaren Production Centre, we were acutely aware of the need to create a space to complement the existing structure of the McLaren Technology Centre.

“Finding a solution that could function within the existing landscape was particularly challenging, but I’m pleased to say that Foster + Partners ensured a seamless continuity between the two buildings, while also allowing the MPC to exist independently as its own unique space.“It is a legacy of our partners’ commitment, passion and adaptability that we were able to commute this shared vision into such a striking, unified and functional piece of design and architecture. The efforts of Targetti have been essential in bringing such a lengthy design and build process to a hugely satisfying conclusion.”A partner of McLaren’s racing team since 1996, Targetti supplies the lighting equipment for the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes pit garages at every grand prix. It also provided a spectacular array of innovative lighting solutions for the McLaren Technology Centre, working closely with the architects to maintain an interaction with the natural light flooding in through the glassy expanse of the Boulevard.

The McLaren Production Centre represented a very different challenge to Targetti because the nature of the building means that the majority of the interior is lit artificially rather than with a combination of artificial and natural light. It was a challenge the company thoroughly relished. The solutions drew on Targetti’s experience in creating lighting environments that promote a sense of wellbeing as well as providing optimal illumination for the task at hand. Targetti is very proud to be able to contribute to the environment of the MPC in such a positive way. “McLaren places great importance in forging partnerships that last for many years”, Ron Dennis said. “With Targetti we share a commitment to innovation and quality, and everyone who works at the McLaren Technology Centre enjoys the benefits of Targetti’s products every day. “It was natural that when planning the McLaren Production Centre we should challenge Targetti once again to provide a range of solutions that make for an enjoyable and effective working environment.” “Thanks to this challenge, we have been able to experiment with extreme solutions which we hope to be able to use in the future for numerous other design applications,” said Lorenzo Targetti, the Group's President.
